Crispy Sesame-Crusted Halloumi: A Bite-Sized Plant-Based Treat

Crispy on the outside and melty on the inside, these Sesame-Crusted Halloumi Bites are the ultimate plant-based snack or appetizer. Coated in a crunchy blend of panko, sesame seeds, and Nafsika’s Garden Parmesan Style Cheese, these golden bites are perfect for entertaining or indulging in a cozy snack.
Ingredients:
- Nafsika’s Garden Halloumi Style Cheese, cubed
- 1 cup panko bread crumbs
- 1/2 cup Nafsika’s Garden Parmesan Style Cheese, shredded
- 3 tablespoons sesame seeds
- 3 tablespoons black sesame seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/3 cup aquafaba (liquid from a can of chickpeas)
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- Salt and black pepper
- Extra virgin olive oil
Directions:
- Preheat your oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, combine the panko, Parmesan Style Cheese, sesame seeds, black sesame seeds, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix well to evenly distribute the seasoning.
- Set up a breading station with three bowls: one with flour, one with aquafaba, and the final one with the panko mixture.
- Working one cube at a time, dip the halloumi into the aquafaba, then coat it in the flour. Dip it back into the aquafaba, and finally roll it in the panko mixture, ensuring all sides are well coated. Place the breaded halloumi cube on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat this process until all the halloumi cubes are breaded.
- Lightly drizzle the halloumi bites with olive oil to help them crisp up while baking. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, then flip each cube and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy on all sides.
- Serve the sesame-crusted halloumi bites warm with your favourite dipping sauce. We recommend apricot jam for a touch of sweetness that perfectly complements the salty, cheesy flavour.
